Susan Nieland has been designing one-of-a-kind necklaces, earrings, bracelets and rings for over two decades. Susan's first collection of fine jewelry in 18K gold found wide acclaim thoughout the 1990s and 2000's. Lauded for its delicate craftsmanship and organic beauty, the collection was featured exclusively at Barneys New York for many years.
Today's collection is a reflection of the beautiful beaches, light and open sky that surround Susan and her family on Long Island's East End. After relocating to East Hampton in 1998, she began to collect beach stones found along the coastal shores of the Long Island Sound, the Atlantic, and the bay beaches, inlets and reefs of the North and South Forks. Each stone provides a unique meditation on the geological forces that formed this special place.
Susan's handmade charms are derived from a lifetime of observing cultural and literary elements in Egyptian, Greek and Roman history and from observing Nature in all of its forms. Filtered through her poetic eye, this wonderful collection of symbols, shapes and artifacts comes from the heart. She enjoys working with all kinds of rocks but has left behind the mined and polished stones to work with the raw and natural beach stones that bring so much joy, empowerment and grounding into her life. And she is truly excited to work with sustainable materials.
Susan Nieland's East Hampton studio is open by appointment throughout the year.
